Recently, major ports around the world have introduced a new loading and unloading fee schedule, with different increases in each operation. The price increase is applied in the context of high operating, labor, construction and infrastructure costs.

2 Chinese ports Ningbo - Zhousan and Guangzhou jointly implemented the adjustment of loading and unloading prices from the beginning of 2022. Specifically, Ningbo - Zhousan Port increased the handling fee by 10% for all types of import and export containers and empty containers. Meanwhile, Guangzhou Port adjusted fees in many operations, such as: the fee for loading and unloading empty containers for import and export increased by 19%; container handling charges from barges and tractors increased by 8% and 19% respectively.…

The ports of Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven (Germany) also announced an adjustment of loading and unloading charges from 2022. The increase in classification by type of container 20' - 40' and cold container fluctuates in the range of 3-5%. Particularly for oversized containers, special goods, the THC price will be doubled.

Port of Singapore: Starting on 1 January 2022, the Port Authority and the Port Authority of Singapore will officially apply the increase in service fees at the Port. It is expected that the fee increase will be implemented in 2 phases. Phase 01 (effective from January 1, 2022) will increase the fee by about 6%, applied to container ships with a stay of 2 to 4 days at the port. Phase 2 is expected to take effect from January 1, 2023. Ships staying at the port for a day or even less will also be charged. For container ships that dock at the Port to load and unload goods, an increased fee will be charged per 100 GT according to the vessel's tonnage and length of stay.

The fee increase is a trend in ports around the world in terms of increasing operating costs, labor, construction and infrastructure upgrades, especially costs for prevention and control activities against COVID-19.
