31/07/2013

APM Terminals today announced that its Yokohama facility has ranked first in a global productivity study released by JOC Group. APM Terminals Yokohama operated at a productivity level of 150 moves per hour (MPH), 26% more than its closest rival, says the port operator based in The Hague (Netherlands). The Japanese terminal handled 875,000 TEUs in 2012.

APM Terminals Mumbai ranked 6th globally overall with 101 MPH. With 1.96 million TEUs handled last year, it is India’s busiest container terminal.

APM Terminals Rotterdam ranked 14th globally with 92 MPH, and first in the Europe/Middle East/Africa geographic category. The Dutch facility handled 2.5 million TEUs in 2012.

APM Terminals CEO Kim Fejfer said: “While we are pleased with our very strong showing in this study, APM Terminals remains deeply committed to continuously increasing our productivity in every terminal, every port, and every part of the world in which we operate, and to do even better in next year’s rankings.”

The study was carried out by US-based JOC Group, which includes the Journal of Commerce, and the PIERs data service. It is based on data provided by 17 carriers. JOC says that rankings were determined by analysing more than 100,000 port calls in 2012.
