H.E. Prime minister Nguyen Tan Dung and governmental delegation paid a working visit to Saigon Newport (11/8/2010)

In the afternoon of 09 August 2010, the Government working group of Socialist Republic of Vietnam, led by His Excellency Prime Minister and Politburo Member Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung, have visited and worked with Saigon Newport Corporation at Tan Cang - Cai Mep Container Terminal (TCCT). Receiving the delegation was representatives from Saigon Newport headed by Senior Colonel Nguyen Dang Nghiem - Vice Chairman of the Members’ Council, General Director and Party Member of the Vietnam People’s Navy, other Vice General Directors and management from all functional departments, enterprises, subsidiaries and affiliates as well as all staff of TCCT.

Receiving the delegation was representatives from Saigon Newport headed by Senior Colonel Nguyen Dang Nghiem - Vice Chairman of the Members’ Council, General Director and Party Member of the Vietnam People’s Navy, other Vice General Directors and management from all functional departments, enterprises, subsidiaries and affiliates as well as all staff of TCCT.
On behalf of the Party Committee and Board of Directors of Saigon Newport Corporation, Mr. Nguyen Dang Nghiem briefly reported the company’s business performance and development and took the chance to make the following two proposals to the State and relevant governmental departments:
The first request has to do with the rights given to Saigon Newport Corporation to take hold of several terminal development projects and access to loan preferential to establish joint ventures with local enterprises, make use of its terminal operation expertise to invest and develop a terminal in Lach Huyen, Dinh Vu (Hai Phong) and in Van Phong (Khanh Hoa).
Secondly, the Government will give directions to build and develop an integrated information system for all terminals in Vietnam (based on the system successfully launched by SNP) to create a crucial link among all terminals, shipping lines, shippers and customers to facilitate cargo handling and enhance administrative procedures.
His Excellency Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made praise and extended his best wishes to all management, staff and soldiers of Saigon Newport Corporation. He also spoke highly of the efforts, solidarity and attempts to overcome difficulties in terminal operations, and thus, outperformed military duties given by the Vietnam People’s Navy and the Ministry of National Defense as well as building a strong and vigorous Party Committee.The Prime Minister indicated: "We have a large and long coastline now developed in line with the Resolution of the Central Party Committee, Session X on Vietnam Sea Strategies up to 2020. In the coming time, focus will rest on three breakthroughs, one of which is the development of transport infrastructure (road, air, and rail transport, seaway, marine economics to account for over 50% of GDP, sea transport, petroleum, shipbuilding, production of floating transport and fishing equipment...). Tan Cang – Cai Mep Deep-water Terminal belong to port group number five - at key economic areas, with the most rapid growth in Vietnam (Cai Mep Port Group has many advantages such as airtight, coast length around 20 km, average access channel depth of nearly 20 meters); Tan Cang – Cai Mep Deep-water Terminal needs to take prompt actions to grasp the opportunities and quickly invest so as to become the central deep-water terminal and transshipment terminal nationwide, regionally and across the globe.
His Excellency Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung assigned the Saigon Newport Corporation on the following duties:
Firstly, as a large military business entity with high capability and advantages, Saigon Newport Corporation has to strive for fast growth with comprehensive terminal development strategies for the next 5 to 10 years. In order to achieve the above target, Saigon Newport shall firstly build a strong and vigorous Party Committee, enlarge well-trained management, provide further training to high quality human resources and focus on enriching knowledge of foreign languages to meet the requirements of business performance, national economic development and sea and islands sovereignty protection.
Secondly, in the field of port management and operations, Vinalines and Saigon Newport Corporation are the two biggest major enterprises. Saigon Newport Corporation needs to combine with Vinalines to draw up a comprehensive regulation on managing and operating a deep-water port in accordance with international norms and practice.
Thirdly, the Prime Minister approved the proposal of Saigon Newport Corporation and trusted the corporation will have the right development strategy. Saigon Newport Corporation can establish joint ventures with different partners as long as the major shareholding is maintained..."
On behalf of nearly 4,000 management, staff and soldiers and more than 7,000 other employees in all premises, Mr. Nguyen Dang Nghiem thanked the Prime Minister and his delegation for their visit and working session at the terminal. At the same time, he also made a promise to the Prime Minister that all management, employees and soldiers of Saigon Newport fully understand their responsibilities and will take determination to try their best to fulfill the tasks trusted and assigned the Prime Minister.
After the working session, the Prime Minister has given all employees and soldiers Saigon Newport Corporation a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh and planted memorial trees in TCCT.
