On November 10, 2009 SNP joyfully hosted the celebration of the two millionth teu handled at Tan Cang – Cat Lai Terminal in 2009 (an outbound container of Wanhai Lines on M/V Wanhai 202, service 280). Attending the celebration was representatives from HCMC Region I Customs Office, shipping lines/agents operating in Tan Cang – Cat Lai Terminal, stevedoring companies and key managers and staff of Saigon Newport. In his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Dang Nghiem, General Director of Saigon Newport, expressed his deep gratitude to valuable shipping lines/agents, customers, HCMC Region I Customs Office and more than 3,000 stevedores for their constant trust and support during ups and downs during past time. Mr. Nghiem also committed to continue to enhance service quality to best meet all customers’ demands. Mr. Jeff Lo, Chief Representative of Wanhai Line Vietnam, replied by expressing his honor and intention for further cooperation with Saigon Newport, the leading terminal operator in Vietnam, and wished the company more successes.

In 2009, import/export volume at all terminals in Vietnam was on a dramatical decrease under the negative effect of the world economic recession. Nevertheless, within the first 11 months in 2009, Saigon Newport had reached a throughput volume of 2 million TEUs (or 28 million tons) at Tan Cang – Cat Lai Terminal and expected to handle 2.4 million TEUs (or 32 million tons). The figure shows that Saigon Newport has been growing very stably as the leading container terminal operator in Vietnam.
