Tan Cang - Cai Mep international terminal welcomes the 1,000,000th Teu

On November 28th 2016, Tan Cang - Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT) solemnly held Customer Conference at Gem Center (TP. HCM).

Tan Cang Cai Mep International Terminal is a joint venture between Saigon Newport Company with 3 partners include Mitsui O.S.K Line (Japan), Hanjin Transportation (Korea) and Wanhai Lines (Taiwan).

TCIT is a deep-sea terminal located near Cai Mep - Thi Vai River turning point, 18 nautical miles away from Vung Tau pilot station with 02 hours voyage time. Its channel depth is minus 14 meters, water draft at berth is minus 16.8 meters and nearby turning basin is 500 meters in diameter. Modern terminal facilities and handling equipment include 03 berths totaling 890 meters in length, 34 ha container yard with a capacity of accommodating nearly 30,000 TEUs. TCIT is equipped with 09 ship-to-shore Panamax gantry cranes with its outreach of 55 meters, 03  cranes in dedicated area for barge operations, 20 modern RTGs 6+1, 03 reach stackers of laden and empty and 56 tractors and chasis. Along with the highly-trained, professional and qualified employees, TCIT had been using modern terminal operation and management system namely TOPX from RBS (an Australian-based company. TCIT also received crucial support from many subsidiaries of Saigon Newport Corporation who provide professional pilot and towage service to unberth vessels fulfilling cargo handling.

Today TCIT, Tan Cang- Cai Mep Terminal Joint Stock Company (TCCT) and Tan Cang - Cai Mep Thi Vai Terminal Co. LTD (TCTT) have united into a strong deep-sea terminal hub of Saigon Newport Corporation in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province with a total area of 108 hectares of CY and nearly 1,500m of berth, proactively meeting the diversified berth demands of customers, carriers as well as emerging demands of initializing international services connecting Cai Mep deep-sea area.

TCIT is also only 70 kms away from HCMC, facilitating roadway and waterway connections to some industrial parks in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Dong Nai. At the same time, TCIT crucially connects other ports of Saigon Newport Corporation in the Mekong Delta such as Cao Lanh Terminal, Sa Đec Terminal (Dong Thap), My Thoi Port (An Giang), Cai Cui Terminal (Can Tho) -  creating a comprehensive logistics network to help clients optimize their transportation of agricultural exports. TCIT is currently a destination to develop and attract a large amount of transit goods between Vietnam and Cambodia, contributing to the growth of transshipment for Vietnam in general and for TCIT in particular.

 

TCIT has now been accommodating 04 feeders/week transitting cargoes from Hai Phong, Da Nang and Quy Nhon directly to mother vessels to America and Europe.

Since the date of starting operation on January 15th 2011, TCIT has received more than 2,000 voyages and handled nearly 4,5 million teus so far. The average net productivity has been over 120 moves/hour/ship. Especially, 2016 marks a breakthrough for TCIT for officially handling more than one million TEU in a year, a historic milestone after nearly 6 years of operations with total throughput increased by 4 times compared with the first year. Taking barge operations into account, this figure almost doubles with approximately 2 million TEUs handled. TCIT has always been holding its leading position in Cai Mep - Thi Vai area with the average market share of over 65%, being the first runner-up in container volume throughput in Vietnam, only after Tan Cang - Cat Lai Terminal in Ho Chi Minh city and being the largest deep-sea transshipment hub in Vietnam.
