The 25th Anniversary Of Saigon Newport Corporation

On March 15th 2014, Saigon Newport Corporation celebrated the 25th anniversary (March 15th 1989 – March 15th 2014). The Corporation was also honored with Third-class Independence Order and the Corporation’s President – Rear Admiral Nguyen Dang Nghiem was honored with the title “Labor Hero”.
Among the ceremony’s attendees were Mr Hoang Trung Hai – member of Central Committee of the Communist Party, Deputy Prime Minister; Colonel General Nguyen Thanh Cung – member of Central Committee of the Communist Party, Deputy Minister of Defense; Mr Le Thanh Hai – member of political Bureau, Party Secretary of Hochiminh City; and officials of the Party, the Government, Ministry of Defense, leaders of provinces and relevant ministries.
On behalf of the Party and the Government, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai awarded Third-class Independence Order to the Corporation and Labour Hero title to Rear Admiral Nguyen Dang Nghiem. These honors demonstrate recognition of the Party, the State and the Army for exceptionally outstanding achievements of Saigon Newport Corporation and especially Rear Admiral Nguyen Dang Nghiem in labor, creativity, contribution to the socialist construction and national defense.

Being an economic – defense unit under the Navy, Ministry of Defense, after 25 years of development (March 15th 1989 – March 15th 2014), under the guide of the Navy – Ministry of Defense, the Naval Command’s Party, Saigon Newport Corporation grew bigger and bigger, becoming a leading company in port operation and logistics services, implementing successfully both economic duty and defense duty.
In the defense duty, Saigon Newport has successfully completed its mission as a military port, to handle equipments, weapons; to safely pilot military vessels; to keep disciplines and security; to construct military and civil projects in the borders and islands..

As a defense unit, Saigon Newport Corporation always tries to pioneer, innovate, create breakthrough in business. From an old terminal on the side of Saigon River with four berth, total length of 1.2 km and dilapidated warehouses in 1989, after 25 years, Saigon Newport Corporation is now managing and exploiting 14 terminals, 2 ICDs all the way from South to North , on 11 key economic provinces of the country with a total estimated assets of 30,000 billions; 27 effective subsidiaries. Many subsidiaries are effectively serving both military duties and economic duties, such as Tan Cang Construction LLC, Tan Cang Pilot LLC, Tan Cang Maritime Services JSC, Tan Cang Offshore Services JSC. Tan Cang - Cat Lai Terminal, Tan Cang - Cai Mep Terminals, ICD Tan Cang - Song Than, ICD Tan Cang - Long Binh are important import – export border gates of the country, especially Tan Cang - Cat Lai Terminal is in the top 34 biggest and most modern container operator in the world.
In 25 years (1989-2014), Saigon Newport has received 36,776 economic vessels; total container volumes throughput reached 27.3 million TEUs (equivalent to 359 million tons), average annual growth 21.9%/ year. Total revenue 35,515 billions vnd; total profit 7,872 billions vnd; state buget 3,146 billions vnd. Particularly, in 2013, production reached 3.88 million TEUs (equivalent to 53 million tons), revenue 7,901 billions vnd, profit 1,222 billion vnd, state budget 504 billions vnd. Saigon Newport now accounts for nearly 85% market share of import-export container in the south, nearly 50% market share nationwide.
Saigon Newport continued to carry out the strategy of sustainable development with two core businesses: "Port operation; logistics services", gradually implementing the third core "Domestic Shipping Services" based on three platforms: "Customer- oriented top service quality; advanced management & high-quality professional human resources; military discipline combined with corporate culture & responsibility to the community."
These achievements made the brand name "Saigon Newport-SNP" become the leading national brand in port operation and logistics services; being true to the faith of leaders of the Party and the Government; keeping the reputation to import-export clients, domestic and worldwide partners.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai affirmed that SNP is a successful model in implementing the resolutions of the party to organize, innovate, develop and improve the efficiency of state-owned company, a bright spot on the combination between economy and defense. Saigon Newport Corporation is a very successful pioneer of Vietnam in container terminal operation, always optimizing all resources. Deputy Prime Minister appreciated the achievements and contributions of all staffs, worthy of the received titles especially the Corporation’s Third-class Independence Order and the General Director’s title “Labor Hero”, worthy of the heroic traditions of the Navy and Vietnam People’s Army. Deputy Prime Minister said that military discipline, Uncle Ho's style has built up highly professional industrial work style, creating corporation’s culture, contributing to the success of Saigon Newport Corporation.
