The 6th conference of the Vietnam's Port Association (VPA)

On November 8th and 9th, 2007, the 6th VPA’s conference was held in Vung Tau City. More than 300 representatives and guests in cluding 108 official delegates, 82 unofficial delegates, 32 guests from People’s Committee, relating Departments of BaRia-Vung Tau province, 64 representatives from sponsoring companies and Public Media attended the Conference.
The report of the fifth Executing board, speeches of Vinamarine and Industry Department- governmental Office, of Ba Ria Vung tau City representatives and of some other port have been released in the conference. According to the report, in 2006, the volume of the 45 VPA’s member ports reached more than 102 milllion of tons, an increase of 20 % as compared to the 2005’s- much higher than the average raise in the past years. The container throughput has achieved 2.8 mil Teus-a 20 % increase. The ports in HCM city area has made up nearly 72% of the container volume nationwide. In the conference, the delegates have discussed how to improve the port infra-structure, orientation to develop port and logistics services, the tariff agreement among the ports and strategy to increase the human resources for the ports. 

SNP’s speech namely “Port development strategy in the context of Vietnam accession to the WTO” and its video clip presenting the premises and activities have attracted the attention of the conference delegates.
The conference voted its new executing board including 15 members. Mr. Le Cong Minh – General Director of Saigon Port has been elected as VPA’s chairman , three vice chairman have been elected including Mr. Nguyen Dang Nghiem – General Director of Saigon Newport Company, Mr. Ngo Bac Ha – General Director of Hai Phong port and Mr. Nguyen Thu – General Director of Da Nang port. The Secretariat has been also voted including 6 members. Mr. Ho Kim Lan of Saigon port has been re-elected as the VPA’s General Secretary. The Conference official program ended at 11:00 on November 9th 2007. The VPA’s annual conference 2008 will be taken place at Nha Trang and hosted by Nha Trang Port.
