On March 15, 1989, the Minister of National Defense issued Decision No. 41/QP to establish Saigon Military Port under the Vietnam People's Navy. This is the foundation of Saigon Newport Corporation.
On May 30, 2025, the Ministry of National Defense decided to establish the Marine Economic Corps (Corps 20) under the Ministry of National Defense, based on Saigon Military Port, with the primary functions and tasks of: Integrating national defense with economic development and vice versa; Conducting business activities in port operations, logistics services, shipping and sea services, industrial park investment & free trade zone, island tourism and renewable energy development.

Over 36 years of construction, development and growth, Saigon Newport Corporation has become the Vietnam leading enterprise in port operation, logistics services and marine economic sectors, which create brand identity in the international market.
