Vietnam leads the 14th Sports Festival ASEAN Ports Association in Malaysia

The 14th Sports Festival of the ASEAN Ports Association (APA), held every three years, which took place from August 21 to 23, was a great success. The closing ceremony was held last night in Shah Alam, Malaysia, in an atmosphere of friendship and solidarity among the Southeast Asian ports.

The Sports Festival of the ASEAN Ports Association officially concluded on August 23, 2024, with nearly 500 athletes competing in 6 events, affirming the spirit of friendship and unity among Southeast Asian ports. At the end of the festival, the Vietnam Ports team led the overall medal standings with a total of 36 medals, including 19 gold, 12 silver, and 5 bronze. Thailand followed with a total of 33 medals, while the host country, Malaysia, ranked third with a total of 24 medals.

Most of the events that the Vietnam Ports Sports Team participated in earned gold medals.
 
Colonel Bui Van Quy - APA President and Deputy General Director of TCT TCSG, expressed his delight with the commendable achievements of the Vietnam Ports sports team: "This event is not just about competing in sports among the port sectors in the region, but it is also an opportunity for member ports involved in maritime, logistics, and port operations to connect and engage with the message of unity, friendship, cooperation, and sustainable development."

In addition to the sports competitions, at the closing ceremony of this APA Sports Festival, with the participation of the Deputy Secretary-General of the Malaysian Ministry of Transport, the Vietnam Ports Association team presented two cultural performances showcasing Vietnam's intangible cultural heritage - the "Ao Dai" (traditional dress) and "Quan Ho Bac Ninh" folk songs, leaving a strong impression on friends from the region.

The APA Sports Festival concluded in a joyful atmosphere, emphasizing the power of sports in global connectivity and building solidarity among the ports in the region and Southeast Asia as a whole. The next Sports Festival will be held in 2027 in Thailand.
