Positive and optimistic signals about the growth in 2019 of Vietnam's largest deep-water port (TCIT)

In 2018, TCIT reached 1.639.290 Teus, increased by 12% over the same period in 2017, held 55% of the market share of Cai Mep - Thi Vai area; continues to be the second largest port in Vietnam - behind Tan Cang - Cat Lai terminal in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the data from the Vietnam Seaports Association (VPA), in 2018 the output through deep-water container ports in Cai Mep - Thi Vai area continues to achieve high growth rate – making a year on year increase of 21%, this is much higher than 6% average growth rate of the seaport volume of the whole country.
In which, Tan Cang - Cai Mep International Container Terminal (TCIT) continues to hold the position of the largest deep-water terminal in Vietnam in 8 consecutive years since being put into operation. In 2018, TCIT reached 1.639.290 Teus, increased by 12% over the same period in 2017, held 55% of the market share of Cai Mep - Thi Vai area; continues to be the second largest port in Vietnam - behind Tan Cang - Cat Lai terminal in Ho Chi Minh City. This is also the first year the throughput of the terminal exceeded 1.5 million Teus - marking a new milestone after 8 years of operation of TCIT in particular and of Vietnam's seaport industry in general.
On behalf of TCIT, Mr. Tran Khanh Hoang - Chairman of the Members' Council said: “2019 will be a year of continued development and prosperity of container terminals in Cai Mep - Thi Vai area. Especially for TCIT, in 2019, it will continue to operate 10 services per week, including 07 services to North America, 01 service to Europe and 02 intra-Asia services operated by the world's 3 largest alliances (THE, OCEAN and 2M + HMM alliances). There are 3 services with capacity up to 14,000 TEU. Especially on January 29th and February 17th, 2019, TCIT successfully received 02 vessels namely COSCO ITALY and COSCO SPAIN with a tonnage up to 157,000 DWT operated by COSCO Shipping lines in the trade between Vietnam and Canada known as the CPNW service. In addition, on February 13th, 2019, the terminal established a new handling record in Vietnam's port operation industry with a handling capacity of 207.36 containers / hour while handling for EXPRESS BERLIN vessel of FE5 service (the service connecting Vietnam - Europe), operated by Yang Ming lines and THE alliance, broke the previous record of 197.71 containers / hour while handling the MOL ADVANTAGE vessel which was put into operation in April 2013. This is a very important milestone to prove the capacity and position of TCIT as well as the Vietnam Seaport industry on the world seaport map”.
In 2019, in order to continue to improve the capacity of receiving large vessels, improve service quality and meet the needs of customers, TCIT has invested more modern equipment including 01 Vietnam largest ship to shore crane with ability to work a row of 24 containers, raising the number of ship to shore cranes to 10; 02 container yard cranes to raise the number of cranes to 22; 10 tractors; 02 forklifts and many other equipment. At the same time, TCIT has been implementing many activities to improve service quality by improving handling productivity, solving difficulties and answering queries of customers 24/7, simplifying customs clearance procedures, promoting the transport of goods by road and waterway from TCIT to Ho Chi Minh City with the policy of supporting cost for customers. In addition, TCIT also applies many preferential policies to support customers to receive/deliver directly at the terminal; work closely with specialized agencies to promote customs clearance through the National Single Window. In the coming time, TCIT will deploy E-port and EDO programs to maximize the convenience for customers who come to receive/deliver directly at terminal and develop smart port models; continue to affirm its position as the largest deep-water terminal in Vietnam to become an international port gateway and transshipment Center in Southeast Asia.
