Saigon Newport company (SNP) - spectacular success on a restructured soe scheme (19/10/2009)

On October 16, 2009, SNP had the honor to receive Vietnamese high-ranking delegation from Political Ministry headed by His Excellency permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung who gave the directions on implementing the Resolutions of the third and ninth Central Conference (session IX) and the Resolution of the tenth National Assembly on restructuring and improving state-owned enterprise performance

On October 16, 2009, SNP had the honor to receive Vietnamese high-ranking delegation from Political Ministry headed by His Excellency permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung who gave the directions on implementing the Resolutions of the third and ninth Central Conference (session IX) and the Resolution of the tenth National Assembly on restructuring and improving state-owned enterprise performance.

At the meeting, General Director Nguyen Dang Nghiem reported: after four years launching such renovation campaign, SNP had outperformed to become the leading terminal operator in Vietnam with a diversified scope of business: terminal operations, CY & warehousing services, logistics service, maritime service, pilotage, tuggage, salvage, forwarding, inland & waterway haulage, project construction, material production, social welfare service… At the moment, SNP has 27 functional departments, 8 of which are subsidiaries. The company has also, as foundation shareholder, contributed capitals to establish 5 new companies. For the first 9 months of 2009, SNP has handled 1.72 million TEUs, accounting for 80% of HCMC import-export market share and more than 50% nationwide. Beside fulfilling military-business tasks, SNP has also outperformed national defense mission, ensuring strong technical backup for the protection of Southern territorial waters.

In order to maintain stable growth by offering full package services, further increasing terminal capacity and investing on deep-sea terminals to keep pace with other prestigious regional and global container terminals, especially in 2011 when Vietnam opens its container terminal sector as committed with WTO, SNP made a proposal to the delegation as follows: 1. In terminal operations: to allow the company to further enlarge operations by investing in Tan Cang – South Do Son Deep-sea Terminal, Tan Cang – Long Binh project and dredging works at Tan Cang – Cai Mep Deep-sea Terminals; 2. In financial issue: to support with commercial loans for medium and long term projects. 3. In organizational structure: to enhance and upgrade organizational structure of the company, proceeding with the transformation of several enterprises into joint stock or limited liabilities companies…

His Excellency Mr. Nguyen Sinh Hung acknowledged the proposals made by SNP and requested relevant governmental ministries to create favorable conditions to help the company deal with arising issues and obstacles to obtain further stable growth and successfully integrate into global business context.
