2023 is off to a promising start as Saigon New Port prepares to welcome international cruise ships again after the Covid-19 pandemic

Following a long period of stagnation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, several countries have gradually removed their isolation policies, creating favorable conditions for the import and export of goods, and Vietnam's tourism industry had many signals for the gradual recovery and development of the international cruise segment. Therefore, in the early days of 2023, SNP welcomed international cruise ships to the ports in our system.

The first journey following the COVID-19 pandemic, however, included just 326 passengers and 409 crew members and arrived at Tan Cang-Hiep Phuoc Terminal (HCMC) at midday on January 11, 2023. With a voyage around Southeast Asia: Singapore-Port Klang (Malaysia)-Langkawi (Malaysia)-Penang (Malaysia)-Phu My/Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam)-Koh Samui (Thailand)-Laem Chabang (Thailand)-Singapore; Mein Schiff 5 only docked at TCCT (Vietnam) for one day for self-sufficient tourists until 19 pm on the same day to continue the next journey to Thailand.

In addition to container vessels and bulk carriers, ports in the Saigon Newport ecosystem: Tan Cang - Hiep Phuoc Terminal (in HCMC), Tan Cang Cai Mep port cluster (TCIT, TCTT, TCCT), and Cam Ranh International Port (operated by Tan Cang Petro Cam Ranh Co., Ltd.) could receive cruise ships and provide services such as pilot services, tugboats, wharf reception service, boat cleaning service, shuttle buses….

The continuous arrival of international cruise ships at ports in the Saigon Newport system in the early days of the new year 2023 is a sign of prosperity not only for Vietnam's tourism industry but also for creating opportunities for SNP's ports in particular to develop the potential to receive recovering cruise ships. It also demonstrates the appeal and significance of the SNP port system on the map of primary seaports in Vietnam. As a consequence, our ports such as TCHP, TCCT will be able to diversify their business and services and continue to develop their markets in the future.
