CMA-CGM steps up co-operation with Saigon Newport company (23/05/2007)

CMA-CGM has begun its operation in Cat Lai since April 2005.
On May 21st 2007, the delegation from CMA-CGM shipping line led by Mr. Ian Cull-Directeur Central of Feedering – FAS paid a visit to Saigon Newport Company. Mr. Ngo Trong Phan – Deputy General Director and representatives of Departments joined to receive the delegation.
In response to the increasing import- export demand of Vietnam market, CMA-CGM is planning to replace their operating vessels with larger ones at Cat Lai port in September 2007. CMA-CGM intended to put the new vessel with the LOA of 169m into operation in Cat Lai instead of the current vessel of 148m. Mr Cull asked SNP to make the suitable berth arrangement for this new vessel namely KUO CHIA.
CMA-CGM has begun its operation in Cat Lai since April 2005. CMA- CGM volume at Cat Lai port has been continuously increasing. In the present time, the monthly average throughput of CMA-CGM in Cat Lai reaches 14,083 teus.
At the meeting, Mr. Phan remarked Cat Lai current operation, development projects in SNP’s premises: Cat Lai, Cai Mep, Long Binh and Song Than. SNP would take CMA-CGM’s proposal into consideration and give reply in a soonest time he said.
Mr. Ian Cull also expressed his desire to have the mother vessel calling at Cai Mep Terminal as Cai Mep first phase construction come to an end in the fourth quarter of 2008 and his interest in the container transportation from Cai Mep to Cat Lai Port. With the capability of receiving 6000 teus vessels, Cai Mep Terminal will surely become a promising deep-water seaport for main lines in the future
