DHL’s new LCL services link Asia, Americas via Busan

DHL has launched new services from Asia to the Americas from a new multimodal gateway located at South Korea’s Port of Busan.
Thirteen less-than-containerload services are handled at the new hub with more to follow during the next 12 months.
The initial services will see shipments from Dalian, Xingang and Qingdao, China; Hakata, Japan; and Busan consolidated at the gateway for delivery to the U.S., Canada, Mexico and five South American countries.
Busan’s location between Japan and China makes it an ideal transshipment point for the growing volumes of cargo moving to the Americas from North Asia, according to Kelvin Leung, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding Asia-Pacific.
“According to some industry reports, we will see trade between Asia and North America grow almost 5 percent in 2013 and more than 5 percent in 2014,” he said. “In addition to the 13 new services that will be introduced with the opening of this facility, we plan to launch another 20 new direct LCL services out of South Korea over the next year.”
