TCIT - Vietnam's largest deep-sea container port set a new record about M/V handling output

On March 2, 2019, Tan Cang - Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT) set a new record in the handling volume of one container vessel when receiving NYK SWAN. 9,947 TEUs were handled of this vessel which was the greatest number ever of one vessel, at TCIT in particular and in Vietnam Maritime Industry generally.
NYK SWAN was built and launched in 2017 with a capacity of 14,026 TEU, 364.15 meters in length & 50.6 meters in width, tonnage is 139,335 tons. It is operated by THE Alliance on the service lane FE5 phased in TCIT from April 2017, connecting TCIT (Vietnam) to European ports such as Rotterdam (Netherlands), Hamburg (Germany, Antwerp (Belgium), Southampton (England).

The long haul services, especially Asia-Europe route, are currently operated by super-large vessels. Thanks to the availability of handling big-sized vessels up to 14,000 Teu (NYK SWAN as an example), TCIT is playing an important role to shorten the transport time of goods between Vietnam and European ports to 23-31 days only without transit via transshipment port in the region as before, as well as helps to save cost for importers/exporters contributing to promote export and import growth between Vietnam and other countries as well as to reinforce the position of Vietnamese goods in the global market.
According to TCIT, apart from NYK SWAN, the handling volume of most M/V on FE5 service are at high level; on average, each vessel is handled about 7,000 - 9,000 TEUs or it is even possible to constantly increase such as NYK SWAN’s output jumped to 9,947 TEUs. This is a positive and optimistic sign not only for TCIT, but also for Vietnam Maritime Industry as it reflects the growing flow of import and export goods between Vietnam and Europe.
“We all understand that the achievement of TCIT is represented today thanks to considerable efforts of nearly 500 employees, the attention from SNP as well as 03 remain shareholder; especially the supports from the Ministry of Transport, Vietnam Maritime Administration, local government agencies of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province in facilitating super-large ships landed on TCIT’s shore in particular and Cai Mep area in general”, said by the representative of TCIT.
