The proper policies and investment are the key factors for SNP in overcoming the difficulties in the port operation and increasing the vessel dispatch. In the week 24 (from 9 June to 13 June 2008) , the operation at Cat Lai port has been normalised and the handling net productivity was 35.4 moves/vessel.hour
Especially, Saigon Newport has focussed on the investment in the handling equipment and the modern terminal operating system (TOS) , the close cooperation with the sattelite ICDs and the transport contractors to increase the the transportation capabilities. Currently, Cat Lai port is equipped with 13 K.E Quayside Gantry Cranes, two Liebherr mobile quayside cranes and two Liebherr fixed Quayside cranes, 16 pcs of 6 1wide RTGs, 28 pcs of 3 1 wide RTGs, 21 reacstackers, 14 forklifts, 121 tractors.
SNP has also applied many policies to ease the tenseness of Cat Lai port such as the transportation of the import laden containers staying more than 20 days at Cat Lai port to Tan Cang, free transportation of import laden containers form Cat Lai to ICDs, moving the empty containers out of Cat Lai port to the 8 surrounding depots and limitting empty container volume at Tan Cang.

In the week 25, the net productivity has increased to 39.7 moves/vessel.hour. Especially, the M/V Uni-Pacific handling productivity at Cat Lai port on June 10, 2008 reached 60 moves/vessel.hour.
The fact that the operation in Cat lai port has been normalized and the increase of the productivity is a good news for SNP, shipping lines as well as the customers. In the coming time, SNP will speed up the construction of the berth N.7 having 216 metres in length and the 5.5 hectare CY and at Cat lai port, complete the construction of Tan Cang- Cai Mep deep sea port (phase 1) with 300 metres of berth length and 20 hectare of CY and Tan Cang Long Binh ICD and put the mentioned facilities into operation in the scheduled time .
