Potential development of logistics center in the Mekong Delta region
The Mekong Delta is a particular area with increasing exports of agricultural products, fisheries, and rice. However, the road connection system still has many difficulties. Due to limited channels, ships over 10,000 tons cannot directly enter and exit ports in the area, and customers still have to transship and take empty containers through the Ho Chi Minh City area, so logistics costs are high. These are also the reasons for the overload and traffic congestion that frequently occurs on the roads connecting Ho Chi Minh City to the provinces in the Mekong Delta.
Through surveys and discussions, customers in the Mekong Delta also expressed concern about the costs of companies when Ho Chi Minh City collects fees for seaport infrastructure, and other investment costs increase due to a complicated social and political situation in the world. Still, the logistics system of the provinces in the region has not developed synchronously and effectively.
Therefore, Can Tho City needs to invest quickly in logistics services to become a regional connection center to help enterprises directly export goods from the Mekong Delta. The solutions to make Can Tho city become the logistics center of the region proposed in the workshop include: establishing a large-scale regional seaport so that ships can receive goods from 10 provinces in the Mekong Delta, building a high-quality industry-agriculture zone with many preferential tariffs, is a gathering place for the production, processing, and consumption of agricultural products, investment and development of air transport for direct export of goods from Can Tho to abroad.
Developing an inter-regional connection supply chain in the Mekong Delta
Understanding the Mekong Delta's customer needs and development orientation, SNP is committed to actively connecting shipping lines to bring empty containers to Can Tho City, Dong Thap provinces. Also, it connects Tan Cang - Cai Cui terminal and other ports in the Mekong Delta with terminals in the Cai Mep area. These solutions contribute to constructing logistics centers for the region and developing innovative, comprehensive, and practical solutions to improve competitiveness.
The series of events with the message "Accompanying and developing with customers in the Mekong Delta" has attracted a lot of attention and attention from enterprises and authorities of the Mekong Delta region and associations. This has shown the topicality of the series of events, especially in this period when Mekong Delta is receiving the attention of development investment from the government and authorities, as shown in Decision 287/QD-TTg on the "Approval of the Master Plan for the Mekong Delta in 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050". In addition, the National Assembly has just approved can Tho city, a resolution on piloting many specific development mechanisms and policies, the most prominent of which is the project calling for investment in dredging the Dinh An channel to attract international vessels.
Dinh An Channel is dredged and can welcome international vessels, combined with the Air Logistics solution via Can Tho International Airport. It is an essential solution to reduce logistics costs by developing logistics centers for the Mekong Delta region, especially Can Tho and neighboring provinces. "The solutions of Saigon Newport Eco-system will contribute significantly to the development of region-connectivity for the sustainable development in the Mekong Delta" Mr. Truong Tan Loc, Marketing Director of SNP, emphasized at the Customer Appreciation Conference in the Mekong Delta region 2022 on the evening of March 30, 2022.
