The second meeting b/w the management of saigon Newport Company and the chief representatives & general directors of the shipping lines/shipping agents in Ho Chi Minh City

There are four main subjects presented in the meeting: the actual operational situation three months after the implementation of the measures concluded in the previous Meeting, the efficiencies of TOPX in increasing the handling productivity, shortening the vessel port-stay and the delivery/ receipt time inside the port

On August 26th 2008, the second meeting b/w the management of SNP and chief representatives and General Directors of the shipping lines was held in the Meeting hall of SNP. The SNP’s General Director - Mr.Nguyen Dang Nghiem presided the Meeting.

The first meeting was held on May 7th2008 when Cat Lai port had to face many difficulties due to the port congestion. The first meeting worked out the important solutions to deal with the obstructs of the port operation. In the opening speech delivered at the second meeting, SNP’s general director extended the sincere thanks to the shipping lines for the unanimity and unite efforts to overcome the obstacles aiming at nomalizing the operational activities in a short time. There are four main subjects presented in the meeting:the actual operational situation three months after the implementation of the measures concluded in the previous Meeting, the efficiencies of TOPX in increasing the handling productivity, shortening the vessel port-stay and the delivery/ receipt time inside the port; the policies applicable by SNP in the coming time; presentation of the developments of the facilities & equipment at Cat Lai port, Cai Mep port- phase 1 as well as the potentialities of the cooperation in Long Binh ICD, South Do Son port and Tan Cang-128 ICD in the North. Especially, the comments and suggestions of the shipping lines’ representatives sent to SNP before the meeting was summarized and the proposals and opinions of the participants was also exchanged and discussed effervescently.

The main focus of the shipping lines’ opinions was in the possible impact of the Phu My bridge construction on the operation at Cat Lai port, the issues relating to the reefer service quality, the updated information about the operational schedule of Cai Mep deep sea port- phase I. The shipping lines’ representatives highly appreciated the efforts of SNP in improving the port stuck situation and dealing with the problems caused by TOPX during the beginning of operation. They also expressed the gladness of the heartening news about the increasing handling productivity at Cat Lai port recently. In the week 34 ( from 18th - 28th August, 2008), the net productivity reached 45.2 moves/vh and it was the best average handling productivity ever done at Cat Lai port up to the present time.

With the attentiveness, SNP highly evaluated and respected the contributive opinions of the shipping lines. The consensual decision- makings at the meeting will be used as the orientation for the port policies and actions from the present time to the end of 2008 and for the succeeding years.
