In an attempt to boost vessel release productivity, apart from constant efforts to invest on modernizing equipment and facilities, upgrading Management Information System (MIS) and expanding container yard, Saigon Newport Company (SNP) has carried out extensive renovations to operations and management under the advanced scheme of ‘terminal’. After a pilot period of 01 month plus successfully operating Terminal I, SNP proceeds to implement reforms by putting Terminal II & Terminal III into operation on November 01, 2006. By this new scheme, each terminal will take the initiative to directly manage the whole procedure of releasing vessels, loading and discharging whose steps to be taken include making berth and yard plans, dealing with arising problems under its authority as well as proposing revised, direct approaches and solutions to SNP’s management. At present each terminal takes control of certain berths and container yard, Terminal I with B01 & B02, Terminal II with B03 & B04 and Terminal III with B05 & B06 to be more specific. It is expected that the renovated strategy of management will essentially boost up operations at Cat Lai Port, fulfilling major objectives: enhancing vessel productivity, reducing port stay, improving customer services – partially prompting Cat Lai Port to an international modern container port, meeting all increasing requirements of shipping lines and customers as well as taking part in fostering tremendous economic growth of the South in particular and of Vietnam in general.
