Enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises in the Mekong Delta from logistics perspective

On March 30th, 2022, Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP) organized a seminar on "Enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises in the Mekong Delta from Logistics Perspective." The conference was held on a face-to-face and online platform, with the participation of leaders of the People's Committees of Can Tho and Hau Giang provinces, the Agency of Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, associations, and agencies, as well as representatives of SNP's subsidiaries.

The conference attracts more than 650 attendees via online platforms (Zoom Meeting and Livestreaming on Facebook and YouTube channels) and the offline meeting at Can Tho City.

Mekong Delta – The great growth potential

As a key economic region, contributing about 90% of rice production, 65% of aquatic products and 70% of export fruit output of the country, its favorable geographical position includes an extended waterway network with high quality, capable of the transport operation; there are 02 arterial waterways from Ho Chi Minh City to Kien Giang, Ca Mau and Quan Chanh Bo canal for large vessels entering and leaving Hau River… Mekong River Delta is interested in developing a systematic and stable logistics system, promoting the potential of a hub for goods export and as a gateway to integrate many convenient seaport services in the region.

However, the development of logistics systems in the Mekong Delta is facing difficulties, such as a lack of investment budget, and high transport costs for companies due to the lack of key logistics centers and unit center systems. The lack of empty containers, the warehouse system at ports, and the limited transport system at ports and roads have blocked the logistics chain, leading to congestion of the supply chain,… 
 

Logistics – Leverage to enhance the competitiveness of enterprises in the Mekong Delta

A complete and comprehensive solution in particular for the supply chain, the logistics system is the most necessary thing to accomplish the goal of "Strengthening development links and developing transport infrastructure connecting with the Southeast region and Ho Chi Minh City. Exploiting advantages, effectively developing production of aquatic products, fruit trees, and food in association with the processing industry, consumption markets, and building product brands" as the Resolution of the Second National Party Congress XIII, The directions, missions and solutions for society-economic development in the 5 year period 2021-2025 have been set out for the Mekong Delta.

Through the seminar, SNP cooperated with government agencies and associations to provide directions for the development of local logistics centers. Also, we simultaneously support enterprises, customers, market development tendencies, effective logistics, and cost-saving solutions through SNP connectivity measures in the context of unpredictable fuel price fluctuations.

Representatives of Can Tho City Customs Branch and VASEP Association discussed directly with customers at the seminar.

The support of SNP with government agencies, authorities, and associations with the Mekong Delta plays an important role. It contributes to the concentration of resources to promote the Mekong Delta logistics system, thrive and encourage the competitiveness of commodities in the supply chain, respond promptly to customers "demands, increase income for manufacturers, and vigorously develop the linking economy in the Mekong Delta region.
