Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT) surpasses the 2-million-TEU milestone for the third time

On 24 November 2025, Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT), a member of Saigon Newport Corporation, officially recorded the 2,000,000th TEU handled in 2025 when container FFAU6456618, carrying electronic components, was loaded onto the ONE GRUS M/V on the EC3 service operated by the Premier Alliance.
In 2025, the global maritime and economic landscape continues to face significant volatility: prolonged geopolitical tensions, widespread supply chain restructuring, soaring operational costs, and increasingly stringent requirements for green and sustainable development. In Vietnam, the Cai Mep–Thi Vai deep-water port cluster serves as a vital gateway for cargo destined for Europe and America. However, with the rising regional cargo volumes, hub ports are facing challenges related to infrastructure, yard space, and overall efficiency. These issues can result in congestion, ultimately impacting the quality of service provided.In light of these challenges, TCIT has achieved a significant milestone: On November 24, 2025, TCIT successfully handled over 2,000,000 TEUs, accomplishing this feat 22 days earlier than in 2020 and one month earlier than in 2021.

One milestone – Three defining journeys
This is the third time TCIT has crossed the 2 million TEUs throughput volume, marking three significant historical chapters:
- 2020 – Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and global supply chain disruptions, TCIT reached the milestone on 17 December with 2,089,555 TEUs – a year of “overcoming the pandemic” to keep cargo moving without interruption.
- 2021 – With the pandemic still evolving and maritime demand fluctuating, TCIT reached the mark on 25 December, with 2,028,308 TEUs – a year when employees lived and worked on-site to ensure safety and continuous operations.
- 2025 – In a year of global uncertainty, challenges intertwined with opportunities, the milestone returned earlier than ever, on 24 November 2025 – a testament to TCIT’s resilience, innovation, and adaptability.
The achievement is the result of TCIT’s continuous enhancement of operational capabilities, complemented by the strength of the Saigon Newport Corporation ecosystem.

TCIT has collaborated with shipping lines to expand hinterland connectivity through ICDs and destination ports, establish linked yards to alleviate yard pressure, shorten cargo release times, and promote direct delivery through incentive policies and optimized transport routes to enhancing supply chain flexibility for importers and exporters.
A milestone that reinforces trust from shipping lines and customers
The 2 million TEU milestone is not only a number, it is proof of operational excellence and market confidence.
TCIT currently handles 12 international services, connecting to major ports across Asia, Europe, North America, and South America; receives mainline vessels up to 173,724 DWT; and serves Cambodian cargo via feeder networks, alongside domestic cargo through an extensive network of barges and trucks linking destination ports and industrial zones.
With its current growth momentum, TCIT’s throughput in 2025 is projected to reach approximately 2.2 million TEUs – the highest among deep-water container terminals in Vietnam and the second-largest container port nationwide, after Tan Cang – Cat Lai.
This milestone reflects not only TCIT’s strong performance and the integrated strength of the Saigon Newport logistics ecosystem but also the growing confidence of shipping lines, logistics enterprises, importers, exporters, and the broader Vietnamese economy amid global challenges.
