25/04/2025
April 25, 2025, the Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT) officially welcomed the maiden call of the IRENES RAINBOW, marking the launch of the new KTX2 service operated by Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL). This service enhances direct connectivity between Vietnam and key Asian markets, including Thailand, Japan, and China.
The welcoming ceremony was attended by leaders from regulatory authorities such as the Vung Tau Maritime Administration, Cai Mep Customs Branch, and the Border Guard Station at Cai Mep Port, as well as representatives from Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP) and its subsidiaries. Distinguished guests included Mr. Tiger Dai, General Director of OOCL Vietnam, the vessel’s captain and crew, and members of the local press.

The delegates ceremoniously welcome the IRENES RAINBOW, the first vessel under the KTX2 service to call TCIT.
Operated weekly, the KTX2 service follows the rotation: TCIT – Shekou – Tokyo – Yokohama – Nagoya – Kobe – Quanzhou – Ho Chi Minh – Laem Chabang – TCIT. The IRENES RAINBOW, with a capacity of 2,800 TEUs, a length of 186 meters, and a deadweight of 37,000 tons, is part of a fleet of four mother vessels, each with a capacity of 2,500–3,000 TEUs.

As one of the region’s leading deep-water ports capable of accommodating the world’s largest vessels and operating to international standards, the Cai Mep – Thi Vai area currently handles 47 weekly international services. Many of these are direct connections between Vietnam and key export markets such as the United States and Europe.
The addition of the KTX2 service by OOCL not only expands service options for import-export businesses in the region but also diversifies Vietnam’s maritime transport network, enhances supply chain flexibility, and further strengthens intra-Asia connectivity—a region rapidly rising on the global trade map.
As Vietnam celebrates the 50th anniversary of national reunification, TCIT takes pride in its ongoing contributions to the country’s global integration journey. Through its commitment to excellence, TCIT continues to elevate Vietnam’s national brand on the international stage—promoting economic growth, honoring cultural heritage, and championing sustainable development in the age of globalization.
