Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT) Welcomes New VTI Service Operated by Interasia Lines – Enhancing Intra-Asia Connectivity and Trade Capacity
02/05/2025
May 2, 2025, Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT) officially welcomed the maiden call of the VTI service operated by Interasia Lines (IAL), establishing direct maritime connectivity between Vietnam and key South and Southeast Asian trade partners, including Thailand and India.
The VTI service operates on a fixed weekly schedule with the rotation: Laem Chabang – TCIT – Port Klang – Nhava Sheva – Mundra – Port Klang – TCIT.
The service is supported by a fleet of vessels with capacities ranging from 2,600 to 3,000 TEUs. As an intra-Asia service, VTI complements existing trade networks, offering exporters and importers more flexible, efficient options in a fast-evolving logistics landscape.
The maiden call M/V INTERASIA ELEVATE, was successfully handled at TCIT, carrying 1,500 TEUs of cargo.
India and Thailand remain two of Vietnam’s most important trade partners in Asia. India plays an increasingly significant role in the global supply chain, serving as both a major supplier of raw materials and a high-potential consumer market for Vietnamese exports, particularly in sectors such as textiles, chemicals, agriculture, and industrial equipment.
Meanwhile, Thailand continues to be Vietnam’s largest trading partner within ASEAN, accounting for 24% of the country's intra-ASEAN trade in 2024. The bilateral trade volume continues to grow steadily, especially in consumer goods, electronic components, and processed agricultural products. In today’s fast-changing global environment, reinforcing the long-standing relationship between Vietnam and these countries paves the way for stronger, more strategic partnerships moving forward.
As part of the welcoming ceremony, TCIT’s leadership presented commemorative gifts to the captain and crew of the M/V INTERASIA ELEVATE
The launch of the VTI service not only increases direct service options from Vietnam to dynamic markets like Thailand and India—two of the region’s most vibrant and growing economies—but also contributes significantly to TCIT’s ongoing service diversification strategy. The new route offers exporters greater convenience, reduced transit time, and more optimized logistics costs.
More broadly, the addition of the VTI service marks an important milestone in TCIT’s mission to expand its international service network and strengthen the operational flexibility of the Cai Mep – Thi Vai deep-sea port complex. It underscores the terminal’s role in advancing intra-Asia trade connectivity—one of the fastest-growing and most strategically vital trade corridors in the global economy.
