Extending berth at Cat Lai Terminal by 224m & 15 hectare

In 2012, thanks to the good support & co-operation of shipping lines and customers, Tan Cang - Cat Lai reached 2.87 million TEU, a year on year increase of 10.5%.

To meet the needs of the shipping lines in term of the berthing windows, especially the needs of carriers to deploy the larger vessels to the port to increase the shipping capacity & reduce operation costs, Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP) is now urgently building a new berth at Tan Cang - Cat Lai. The new berth is 224m long with the container yard (CY) of over 15 hectares & equipped with two Post Panamax cranes and 05 RTG 6+1 cranes. The new berth will be able to receive vessels up to 40,000 DWT & expected to be put into operation in June 2013. With this extension, the total berth length of Tan Cang – Cat Lai Terminal will be 1424m & Cat Lai will have 8 berths. The total area of Cat Lai will be 120 hectares; The throughput capacity of Tan Cang - Cat Lai Terminal will reach 4.2 million TEUs/ year.
